Hello, children.

Today we’re going to travel around London. We’ll start from one of its places of interest. It is a famous theatre where only Shakespeare’s plays are staged.

What theatre is it?

It’s the Globe Theatre.

We’ll speak about the Globe Theatre. We’ll get to know some interesting facts about this theatre, read the text about its history and get some information about it, give a description of the places of interest in London.

The Globe

1. The Globe was built in 1599 in Southwark on the south bank of London’s River Thames.

2. The Globe was able to hold up to 3000 spectators.

3. The theatre had a 100-foot diameter.

4. The theatre had three stories of seating.

5. The Globe Theatre burnt down in 1613 when a special effect on stage went wrong. A cannon used for a performance of Henry VIII set light to the thatched roof and the fire quickly spread, reportedly taking less than two hours to burn down completely.

6. The Globe Theatre was rebuilt on the same spot in 1614.

7. In 1997 a third version and a faithful reconstruction of the Globe Theatre was built as “Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre”, close to the original site in Southwark.
